Don’t Trade Kayshon Boutte – Here’s Why!

With the NFL Draft just days away, Adam Schefter reported this morning that Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte could be a potential trade candidate. He added him to his list of potential trade targets on draft day throughout the NFL. On the surface, it might seem like a minor rumor—but make no mistake: moving on from Boutte would be a big mistake for New England.
In our latest Pats Planet video (watch below), we break down why the Patriots should ABSOLUTELY NOT trade Kayshon Boutte and why his development could be crucial to the team’s future success.
Chemistry With Drake Maye
Let’s start with this — Drake Maye’s first career NFL touchdown pass was to none other than Kayshon Boutte. That might not be front-page news to most, but to Patriots fans watching this rebuild closely, it signals something important: timing and trust.
Boutte and Maye have real reps together, and that on-field chemistry should not be thrown away just for the sake of recouping a Day 3 pick.
Still Young, Still Growing
Even though Boutte is entering his third NFL season, he’s still just 22 years old—younger than both recently drafted receivers Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker.
That’s right: he has more pro experience than either of them and is still technically the youngest wideout in the building.
He also led the Patriots in snaps at the WR position down the stretch last season (from week 5 on). That’s not a fringe guy — that’s a player the coaching staff trusted on the field.
Trading Him Now Makes No Sense
What would the Patriots realistically get back in a Boutte trade? A conditional fifth, sixth or seventh-rounder?
The upside of keeping him far outweighs the minimal return. I guess the argument to trade him would be so they could make room to draft a WR theylike more? But he’s already made progress in the system, has chemistry with your franchise quarterback, and brings more value than most of the receivers in his age bracket across the league.
We’ve Seen This Story Before…
This organization has let young wideouts walk before and lived to regret it. Jakobi Meyers is the most glaring example — developed in-house, let go for nothing, and became a red zone monster in Las Vegas.
The Pats can’t afford to keep repeating that mistake, especially with a player as talented and cost-controlled as Boutte.
Bottom Line:
Kayshon Boutte may not be a household name — yet — but he’s already building something in New England. Now is not the time to hit reset. Let the kid grow with Drake Maye, and let’s see where this connection can go.
