The New England Patriots made a pair of low-profile roster transactions this week, releasing defensive tackle Eric Johnson II and signing running back Trayveon Williams.
Johnson, who joined the team earlier this offseason, was competing for a depth role along the interior defensive line. His release opens the door for other young linemen to step up ahead of camp.
In a corresponding move, the Patriots added former Bengals RB Trayveon Williams. The fifth-year back brings experience as a rotational runner and kick return option, likely serving as additional depth behind Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, and Antonio Gibson.
No major shakeups, but the back end of the roster continues to take shape.
