The New England Patriots were reportedly one of several teams that inquired about acquiring Baltimore Ravens wideout Rashod Bateman â prior to him signing a new 3-year extension to stay in Baltimore.
According to ESPNâs Jeremy Fowler, the Ravens gave Bateman permission to explore trade possibilities earlier this offseason after contract talks initially stalled. Once multiple teams â including the Patriots, Cowboys, and Packers â began showing interest, the Ravens eventually reversed course and got a deal done: 3-years, $36.75 million extension with $20 million guaranteed, locking Bateman in through 2029.
Bateman is coming off his best NFL season with 45 receptions, 756 yards, and 9 touchdowns. And Still just 25 years young, the former 1st-round pick could’ve added a reliable presence to a Patriots wide receiver room that already featured the additions of Diggs and Hollins through free agency.
A Missed Opportunity?
With Diggs coming off a torn ACL and the rest of the WR room still unproven, Bateman would have slotted in cleanly as a WR2 or WR3 in the Patriotsâ new-look offense led by Drake Maye. But Baltimoreâs decision to pay up suggests they werenât willing to risk losing him.
