MINI CAMP: DAY 2 RECAP
Written By: @scottybrak

The second day of Patriots mandatory minicamp brought some energy — and some good defense.
Christian Gonzalez made the play of the day with a one-handed interception on a deep ball (slightly overthrown) from Drake Maye, continuing his strong spring and showing why he could be one of the best corners in 2025. Marcus Jones also stood out with a touchdown-saving breakup on standout rookie Kyle Williams, while Cam Riley also recorded 2 PBUs. The defense showed up today.
On the offensive side, QB Drake Maye had a streaky day. He finished 9-of-14 with one interception during 11-on-11s and though he showed poise and continued to looked sharp at times, he struggled with consistency today in the red zone and under pressure. He also scrambled several times, with pressure leading to his lone pick. This was his first INT since the 4 INT practice. Shouldn’t be cause for concern though.
The best offensive play came from tight end Hunter Henry when he hauled in his own one-handed grab on a crossing route with Jabrill Peppers on him in coverage — a highlight play that drew reactions from teammates and coaches. Pop Douglas also had a nice third-down crosser against Carlton Davis. Pop continues to impress.
In the kicking competition, Andres Borregales continued his no miss streak, going 4-for-4 on field goals, while Parker Romo hit 3-of-4.
A handful of players remained out or limited, including WR Mack Hollins, LB Jahlani Tavai, and OL Wes Schweitzer (who we later found out was placed on Reserve/Retired List, unexpectedly)
Stefon Diggs, Ja’Lynn Polk, Marte Mapu, Kyle Dugger were all on limited workloads.
Speaking of Diggs — he had high praise for his new head coach Mike Vrabel, saying:
“He’s got that itch that makes you want to run through a wall for him.”
The buy-in is beautiful..
