The Patriots hosted season-ticket members and local residents for an in-stadium scrimmage Friday night, as the Blue and White squads squared off in full pads under the lights. With a points-based scoring system in place, the White Team pulled out a 47–38 win — and while the score mattered, all eyes were on player performances and how the teams looked as a whole
It was up and down.
Coaching Staff Assignments
Mike Vrabel delegated head coaching duties – was also in charge of who received what reps.
- Blue Team HC: Zak Kuhr (ILBs)
- OC: Josh McDaniels
- White Team HC: Thomas Brown (TEs)
- DC: Terrell Williams
Roster was split via a coach-led draft.
Quarterback Headlines
Drake Maye (Blue Team) had an up-and-down night:
- Threw his first two interceptions of camp
- INT #1: Tipped off Stefon Diggs’ hands, picked by Robert Spillane
- INT #2: Misread with rookie Kyle Williams, jumped by Alex Austin (nearly a pick-six)
- Did find the end zone — 32-yard TD to Williams on a trick play
- Red Zone woes: Overthrew Stevenson and Diggs, settled for field goals
- Next drive struggles: 3 throwaways + rare Efton Chism drop
- Offense dealt with: penalties and lack of separation
Joshua Dobbs (White Team) made the most of his reps:
- Play of the night: Dropped a 35-yard TD dime to Kayshon Boutte vs. Cover 2
- Also connected with Boutte on a deep dig in 2-minute drill → led to Parker Romo FG
Defense Dominates Turnovers
The defense’s summer-long focus on takeaways paid off in primetime:
- 5 total offensive giveaways (4 INTs, 1 fumble)
Standouts:
- Robert Spillane:
- 1 INT off tipped ball
- 1 fumble recovery (forced by Brandon Crossley on Rhamondre Stevenson)
- Jaylinn Hawkins:
- Scrimmage captain
- 2 INTs: one off a Pop Douglas trick-play throw, another off a Lan Larison tip
- Alex Austin:
- Jumped Maye hitch in 2-minute drill, slid to burn clock
- Christian Elliss:
- Stoned TreVeyon Henderson for a run stop in the backfield
Offensive Concerns
- Rhamondre Stevenson fumbled again, a growing issue (7 fumbles in 2024)
- Ball security remains a focal point heading into preseason
- Antonio Gibson sat out, giving reps to TreVeyon Henderson, Larison, Terrell Jennings
- Kendrick Bourne exited early with what appeared to be a lower-leg issue
Playmakers on Offense
- Kayshon Boutte:
- TD grab of the night + chain-moving dig-route reception
- Looked good with Dobbs
- Kyle Williams:
- Wide open on trick-play TD from Maye
- Continues to flash as an ascending rookie WR
- Lan Larison:
- 5-yard TD run on a smooth jump cut
